Dana’s Song

I wrote this on June 27, 2013.  It really is hard to believe its been more than 3 years since I wrote it, I remember the day like it was yesterday.  I had spent the day with Dana, we played a BUNCH of songs and he told me some stories.  I came home that evening and I wrote this for him.  About 4 months before the Lord called him home, Jason caught me looking at it and told me to read it to him or make a song out of it, but I knew I would never make it through it on stage.  So in honor of Him on  #nationalpoetryday, I thought I would share it on my NEW BLOG…changed it up today!

He doesn’t sugar coat it, he tells it like it is.
He’s been around the world on 18 wheels.
He loves his wife, his kids, and his dog,
His ole martin guitar and good blue grass songs.

He’s made some mistakes and felt the shame
of makin his momma worry, not honoring his fathers name.
But that was when he was young and wild,
Now he knows he is God’s blessed Child.
God’s redemption, grace and unending love,
has washed clean this man and made him a dove.

He can pick a guitar, a banjo, a bass.
He could have made it big, played on any stage.
But his heart was true to his kids, his place,
So he played when he could, he chose to stay.
He passed on the road, sometimes it showed in his face.

He is tough as nails with a heart of gold
He’s hard to handle and to tough to hold
But he loves his wife, his kids, and his dog
His ole martin guitar and good blue grass songs

He gave me a gift that I can never repay,
I have tried many times but never really say
How much I love him and how he changed my life
How he gave me a song and opened my eyes
to God’s plan for me, his gifts in my life.

A powerful man, a testimony of love,
of courage, of strength, of faith in our Father Above.
I’m honored to call him my mentor, my friend, my Clayton Delanie
Forever AMEN!
